COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. –Boise State’s Sam Sippel was tabbed the Mountain West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week. No selection was made for MW Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Week.

On the women’s side, San José State swept the women’s tennis weekly awards. Senior Carolina Millan was named the MW Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, while rookie Cheuk Ying Shek garnered the MW Women’s Tennis Freshman of the Week nod.

MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

SAM SIPPEL, BOISE STATE

Senior, Nuernberg Germany / Azusa Pacific

  • Led the Broncos to a split weekend with a win over Oregon (4-3) and a loss to No. 1 Ohio State (0-4).
  • Overall, the senior went 2-1.
  • Against Oregon, logged a singles win in straight sets (7-6 (6), 6-3, handing No. 66 Quinn Vandecasteele a loss on court one.
  • On the number one doubles court, posted a win over Vandecasteele/Burton with partner Jip van Assendelft, 6-3.

WOMEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

CAROLINA MILLAN, SAN JOSÉ STATE

Senior, Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico / Utah State

  • Guided the Spartans to a 2-0 week with wins over UC Riverside (6-1) and Sacramento State (5-2).
  • Posted a 4-0 combined week in the singles first flight and doubles second flight.
  • Against UC Riverside, logged a 6-2, 6-2 win over Brionna Nguyen.
  • Millan and partner Jovana Babic took down Tran/Shabazi, 6-4, in the number two doubles position.
  • Against Sacramento State, recorded a 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 win over Weronika Ejsmont.
  • In doubles, snagged a win over Ferreros/Lee, 6-3, with partner Babic.

WOMEN’S TENNIS FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

CHEUK YING SHEK, SAN JOSÉ STATE

Sai Kung, Hong Kong

  • The rookie helped San José State to a 2-0 week, with wins against UC Riverside (6-1) and Sacramento State (5-2).
  • Logged a 3-1 combined record on the weekend with a singles win and two doubles wins.
  • Against UC Riverside, posted two wins; a number two singles win 6-3, 4-6, (8-6) over Maya Youssef and 6-2 doubles win in the number one flight over Olivia McIntosh/Crystal Kim with partner Irena Muradyan.
  • Posted a 1-1 record against Sacramento State. Won her number one doubles match with Muradyan over Baudouin/Riva, 6-3, earning the Spartans the doubles point.
