LAS VEGAS (UNLVrebels.com) – After UNLV volleyball’s Isabel Martin was named a Mountain West Co-Player of the Year, the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) recognized her feats in 2023 with a slot on the 2023 Pacific South All-Region First Team on Tuesday.

Only five other Rebel student-athletes have been selected on an All-Region team, three of them earning the honor multiple times during their playing career. Martin becomes the fourth member in program history to claim the honor in back-to-back years, previously listed in the 2022 Honorable Mention team. The All-Region team features the top 14 student-athletes from the Pacific South area.

Martin, the redshirt senior outside hitter, helped led UNLV to a third-place finish in the Mountain West standings with 19 team wins. She set several career marks over the course of the 2023 season, tying the single-game kills record in program history during the 3-2 win over Colorado State, recording 34 kills that match. The Germany product’s senior was one for the books, tallying 514 kills in 32 matches to total the third-most kills in a single season in UNLV’s record book. The high-flying season pushed her through the program’s top-10 all-time kill leaders in just her second season with the program, ending the year eighth with 945 kills.

Martin’s 4.32 kills per set and 4.88 points per set were slotted at second overall in the conference this past season, earning a career-high season hitting percentage of .294 to help the program earn the highest team hitting percentage of all-time in a single season (.274). The redshirt season also notched career marks on the defensive side of the net, eclipsing over 500 digs (515) and over 100 block assists (102) at different points during the season.

Isabel Martin’s latest honor now puts her in the AVCA’s All-America conversation, the 2023 AVCA All-America Teams set to announce on Wednesday, Dec. 13. To stay up-to-date on all things Rebels, check back to UNLVrebels.com.
