Opposite hitter continues to add to season accolades

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Opposite hitter Malaya Jones was named to the AVCA All-Distrist team as an honorable mention, the AVCA offices announced Tuesday morning.

The redshirt junior finished the season playing in all 31 matches with a total of 466 kills at a 3.73 kills per set average, setting a Colorado State single season record for both kills and kills per set. On the year, Jones hit at a .309 efficiency as the only Ram with over 1,000 attempts.

Defensively, Jones added 215 digs in her first year as a six-rotation player. The California native also added 86 total blocks and 25 service aces for Colorado State.

Jones broke the Colorado State record for kills in a three-set match in the Rams’ win over New Mexico in the Mountain West Tournament totaling 25 kills. The next day she set the record for kills in a Mountain West Championship game with 34 kills over Fresno State.

Other accolades from this season include being named Mountain West Player of the Week twice, named to the Mountain West All-Conference team and now adding an All-District honor to her career.
