LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Leah John fired off a final round score of 68 (-4) on Wednesday, as she put together the second-best 54-hole score in Nevada Women’s golf program history (203), propelling her to her second consecutive individual title at the 2023 Golf Iconic Classic.
The individual title for John comes just eight days after she secured a first-place finish at the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational, as the fifth-year senior now has three individual championships throughout her historic career.
John’s immaculate score of 203 (-15) is the second-best score in a three-round tournament in the history of Nevada Women’s golf, as she came just two strokes shy of the record set by Victoria Gailey at the 2022 Ptarmigan Ram Classic.
John was nothing short of exceptional throughout the entire event, as she pulled away from the rest of the field on Wednesday, earning the first-place finish by three strokes.
Beginning her round on hole five, John started the day with back-to-back pars before picking up her first birdie of the round on the seventh hole. After four consecutive pars, John tallied another birdie to get to -2.
She picked up a bogey on the next hole; however, that proved to be the only bogey on her scorecard throughout the final round, as she went on to tally six pars and three birdies over the final nine holes to claim first-place by four strokes in a field of 92 golfers.
John’s stellar outing helped fuel Nevada to a third-place finish as a team, as the Pack carded an even-par 288 (E) to advance two spots on the leaderboard on the final day. Nevada recorded a 54-hole score of 859 (-5), marking the fifth-best team score in program history.
Sophomore Gabby Kano finished second in the Nevada lineup and tied for 17th overall with a three-round score of 215 (-1), marking the second consecutive tournament that Kano has finished below par. She shot a 75 for the final round after tallying 13 pars and one birdie.

Sheikh advanced 17 spots on the leaderboard throughout the final round, concluding the tournament tied for 37th at +6. Sheikh tallied eight pars and five birdies across the final set of 18 holes.
