COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – New Mexico’s Uxue Guereca has been tabbed the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week. Boise State sophomore Bella McGirr is named the MW Defensive Player of the Week and MW Volleyball Freshman of the Week honors go to Wyoming’s Sierra Grizzle.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
UXUE GUERECA, NEW MEXICO
Senior, Outside, Jalisco, Guadalajara, Mexico / Cervantes Loma Bonita
- Helped the Lobos to a 2-0 week on the road with wins over UNLV (3-0) and San Diego State (3-1) in the same week for the first time since 2008.
- Turned in a .311 hitting percentage and 30 points on the week, averaging 3.0 kills, 3.0 digs, and 4.28 points per set.
- Against the Rebels, tallied 13 kills with only one error for a .462 hitting percentage, totaling four service aces. Contributed defensively with eight digs and four blocks, and was perfect on 10 serve receives.
- In the four-set victory over the Aztecs, posted eight kills, one service ace and a .200 hitting percentage, only logging one error. The senior added 13 digs, seven service receptions and three blocks.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
BELLA MCGIRR, BOISE STATE
Sophomore, Libero, Novato, California / Marin Catholic HS
- Earned her first two starts at libero, helping the Broncos to a home sweep of Fresno State (3-0) and Nevada (3-0).
- Averaged 5.17 digs per set with a team-high 31 digs, a .960 serve receive, and 1.17 assists per set.
- Against the Bulldogs, logged a team-high 17 digs and was perfect in her 11 service receptions. Contributed five assists and two services.
- Against the Wolf Pack, had 14 digs while posting a .929 reception percentage on 14 receptions with only one error. Also logged two assists and a service ace.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
SIERRA GRIZZLE, WYOMING
Freshman, Libero/Defensive Specialist, Boise, Idaho / Mountain View
- Helped the Cowgirls to a pair of wins in her first two career starts at libero, Colorado State (3-1) and San José State (3-0).
- Averaged 3.86 digs per set on 27 total digs and had a reception percentage of .952 on 42 attempts. Also contributed 10 assists across the two matches.
- In the four-set battle with rival Colorado State, logged a career-high 17 digs, along with a .905 serve receive percentage, two service aces and seven assists.
- In the sweep over San José State the freshman tallied 10 digs and a .867 serve receive percentage with three assists.
