COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – UNLV junior McKenzi Hall has been tabbed the Mountain West Women’s Golfer of the Month for September, while Colorado State’s Kara Kaneshiro has been selected as the MW Freshman of the Month.
The monthly honors are the first for both athletes.
GOLFER OF THE MONTH
McKENZI HALL, UNLV
Junior, Las Vegas, Nev. / Centennial HS
- Earned her first career victory at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in her only appearance of the month, firing a 9-under-par 207 (72-64-71) to finish tied atop the 97-golfer field.
- Averaged 69.0 strokes over three rounds.
- Matched the program record with an 8-under 64 in the second round, shooting a bogey-free round with eight birdies.
- Helped the Rebels to a fourth-place finish in the 16-team field, which included 14 teams ranked in the top 50 of this week’s Golfweek team rankings.
FRESHMAN OF THE MONTH
KARA KANESHIRO, COLORADO STATE
Freshman, Honolulu, Hawai‘i / Kalani HS
- Averaged 70.83 strokes over six rounds, posting a pair of top-15 finishes in her first month as a collegian.
- Opened her career at the Badger Invitational in Madison, Wisconsin, shooting 73-74-72 for a 3-over-par 219 to tie for 14th.
- Finished fifth at CSU’s own Ptarmigan Ram Classic, opening with consecutive rounds of 5-under 67 before closing with an even-par 72 for a three-round total of 10-under 206.
- Helped the Rams post a program-record score of 264 in the first round. Their 54-hole score of 46-under 818 was also a school record.
- Helped Colorado State win its home tournament for the first time since 2004.
