COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Boise State junior forward Carly Cross has been named Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week, while Colorado State junior goalkeeper Shayna Ross was selected as the MW Defensive Player of the Week. UNLV’s Cassie Villanueva has been tabbed the MW Freshman of the Week.

 

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

CARLY CROSS, BOISE STATE

Junior, Forward, Anaheim, California /Canyon HS

  • Led Boise State to a 1-0-1 record this week with a 4-3 win over Eastern Washington and a 0-0 draw against Oregon State.
  • Netted a hat trick for six points on the week, including the game-winning goal over the Eagles.
  • Tallied nine shots and eight shots on goal, registering an .889 shots on goal percentage.

 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

SHAYNA ROSS, COLORADO STATE

Junior, Goalkeeper, San Diego, California/Torrey Pines HS

  • Guided Colorado State to a 2-0 mark with road wins over Montana (1-0) and Idaho State (2-1).
  • Allowed just one goal and recorded seven saves in 180 minutes of action in goal.
  • Registered a save percentage of .875 and a goal against average of .50.
  • Recorded a shutout at Montana.

 

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

CASSIE VILLANUEVA, UNLV

Forward, La Mirada, California/La Mirada HS

  • Helped UNLV to a 2-0 road sweep over New Mexico State (3-2) and CSU Bakersfield (3-1).
  • Recorded two goals and an assist for five points against the Aggies. Also, tallied five shots on the week.
  • Netted first-career brace against NM State, including the game-winning score.
