FORT COLLINS – Colorado State junior safety Jack Howell has been named to the watch list for the 2023 Bronko Nagurski Trophy, the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) announced on Tuesday.

Howell, a preseason all-conference selection on both the Mountain West and Pro Football Focus teams, led the nation’s defensive backs with 108 total tackles last season and earned All-Mountain West First Team recognition for the first time. In 2021, his freshman campaign, Howell was named an FWAA Freshman All-American.

The watch list is comprised of 96 players nationally and the trophy recognizes teh best defensive player in college football. Howell is one of six MW players to be named to the watch list

The FWAA and the Charlotte Touchdown Club will announce finalists for the 2023 trophy on Nov. 15 and the winner will be unveiled Dec. 4 at the Bronko Nagurski Awards Banquet in Charlotte, N.C.

Sell Out Washington State; Kick Times Announced


Ram fans can start to fill in their calendars, book their hotels, and secure their tailgating spots for the entirety of the 2023 season as five of the six home games – all of which will be played on Saturdays this fall – have been announced along with the Rocky Mountain Showdown. The home opener against Washington State, set for Saturday, Sept. 2, will kick off at 5 p.m. The Boise State game, slated for Homecoming and Family Weekend, received a 12-day out designation from Fox Sports which means the kick time for that game will be determined 12-days prior to kick off on Monday, Oct. 2.
