COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Mountain West is sending 12 student-athletes from eight institutions to compete in the 18th Annual Global Challenge. The competition begins July 18 in Maribor, Slovenia. This will mark the seventh year for the Conference to participate in the Global Challenge.
The coaches of the Mountain West squad are Rob Neilson, head coach of Utah State, who led the Aggies to the 2022 MW Volleyball Championship title and an NCAA Tournament appearance, and Melanie Greene, San Diego State’s assistant coach.

July 12-13 – Fly from the USA to Austria, transfer to Maribor, Slovenia
July 14-16 – Train and friendly competition in Maribor, Slovenia
July 17 – Travel to Pula, Croatia, for opening ceremonies
July 18-21 – 2023 Global Challenge Tournament begins
July 22 – In Venice, Italy
July 23 – Return to the USA
About the Global Challenge
Year after year, the mission of the Global Challenge is to provide teams with international playing experience and exposure. Past tournament participants have included club and country federation teams from Slovenia, Russia, Romania, Germany, Bosnia, Montenegro, China, Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, Italy, Israel, Japan, Iran, Sweden, Denmark, and Puerto Rico, plus USA regional HP, youth national, junior national, and collegiate national teams.
