COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Boise State senior Simon Arca Costas, has been named the Mountain West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, while New Mexico’s Nikolay Sysoev is tabbed MW Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Week. On the women’s side, San Diego State junior Andjela Skrobonja has been selected as the Mountain West Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, while Air Force’s Abby Cotuna garners MW Freshman of the Week honors.
 
MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
SIMON ARCA COSTAS, BOISE STATE
Senior, Vigo, Spain /IES Alexandre Boveda HS

  • Helped the Broncos to a 2-0 week, defeating Air Force (4-0) and Eastern Washington (7-0).
  • Posted a combined 4-0 record in singles 1 &2 and No. 1 doubles.  
  • Against the Falcons, secured a singles win on court two in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2 and in the No. 1 doubles flight teamed up with Michael Bott for a 6-4 victory. 
  • Moving up to No. 1 singles against EWU, collected another straight sets victory, 6-0, 6-1, while teaming up with Bott again in the No. 1 doubles flight, winning 6-2.   

MEN’S TENNIS FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
NIKOLAY SYSOEV, NEW MEXICO

  • Helped the Lobos to a Conference victory over Nevada, 4-1. 
  • At the No. 6 singles flight, clinched the final point to give the Lobos the victory, defeating Loris Zisswiller, 6-7 (6-8), 6-2, 6-3.

WOMEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

  • Went 4-0 combined on the week with team wins over Colorado State, 4-2, and Wyoming, 4-1, helping move the Aztecs to a tie for first in the Conference standings. 
  • Against Colorado State in the No. 1 singles flight, defeated Radka Buzkova in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, and teamed with Dariya Detkovskaya to secure a No. 2 doubles victory against Ky Ecton/Zara Lennon, 7-6.
  • Against Wyoming, collected another straight sets win at No. 1 singles over Sophie Zehender, 6-1, 6-4, and again teamed with Detkovskaya to take down Maria Oreshkina/Violetta Borodina, 6-1.

WOMEN’S TENNIS FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

  • Combined at No. 5 singles and No. 2 doubles for a 4-0 record on the weekend and two Conference team wins against Boise State, 4-1, and Utah State, 4-2. 
  • Against Boise State, collected a No. 5 singles win against Shauna Heffernan in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0, and teamed with Isabella Flodin to secure a No. 2 doubles victory over Joana Baptista/Holly Stewart, 6-1.
  • Against Utah State, posted another straight sets victory over Maggie Nunez Pureco, 6-4, 6-3, and at No. 2 doubles with Flodin defeated Annaliese County/Zeynep Naz Ozturk, 6-3.
