COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Nevada sophomore Juan Batalla is the Mountain West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week and Boise State’s Pedro Liborio is the MW Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Week. On the women’s side, the Wolf Pack swept weekly honors with junior Anastasia Luneva claiming Player of the Week recognition and Mariana Campino earning MW Freshman of the Week accolades.
 
This marks the first career MW weekly award for the quartet.
 
MEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JUAN BATALLA, NEVADA
Sophomore, Mexico City, Mexico

  • Combined for a 4-0 record on the week in both singles and doubles play, helping Nevada to a 3-0 record with wins over San Diego Christian College (4-0) and a doubleheader sweep over UC San Diego, defeating the Tritons 6-1 in match one and 4-0 in match two.
  • Went 2-0 at singles No. 2, defeating USCD’s Jett Cole (6-2, 6-2) and Phillip Lan in straight sets on Jan. 16.
  • Earned two victories at No. 1 doubles with teammate Ambrose Marchand, defeating SDCC’s Chris Papa and Robin Van Den Hoek 6-1 on Jan. 15 and UCSD’s Phillip Lan and Zach Ermert 6-4.
  • Had a 5-3 lead at No. 1 doubles in the second match of the doubleheader against UC San Diego but went unfinished due to the match being clinched.

MEN’S FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
PEDRO LIBORIO, BOISE STATE
Freshman, Caldas Da Rainha, Portugal

  • Helped Boise State to a season-opening win over Portland State (7-0).
  • Defeated PSU’s Oliver Richards at No. 2 singles in straight sets (6-1, 6-3) in his collegiate debut.

WOMEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK
ANASTASIA LUNEVA, NEVADA
Junior, Moscow, Russia

  • Went 4-0 on the week in singles and doubles combined, helping Nevada to a 2-0 record with victories over Biola University (5-2) and UC Riverside (7-0).
  • At the top singles position, went 2-0 defeating BU’s Emery Colbeyshae in three sets (4-6, 6-3, 6-4) on Jan. 14 and UCR’s Mahli Silpachai in straight sets (6-1, 6-2) on Jan. 15.
  • Earned two wins at No. 1 doubles with teammate Mika Genkova, defeating Eagles’ duo Colbeyshae and Mary Brascia (6-2) and Highlander’s pair Sipachai and Hanh Pham (6-2).

WOMEN’S FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
MARIANA CAMPINO, NEVADA
Freshman, Ovar, Portugal

  • Went undefeated on the week (4-0), earning two singles and two doubles wins all in straight sets.
  • Didn’t drop a set in both doubles victory with teammate Selina Turulja, defeating BU duo Gaby Carvajal and Brooke Fager 6-0 and UC Riverside’s Natalie Shamma and Serina Saltzen (6-0).
  • Had two impressive performances at No. 3 singles, downing Biola’s Lilly McNeill (6-1, 6-0) and UCR’s Shamma (6-3, 6-4).
