LOGAN, Utah — Utah State men’s tennis team moved up to No. 39 in the latest Oracle/ITA poll released by the organization on Tuesday. For the fourth-straight week, the Aggies reached the highest ranking in school history, this time topping last week’s No. 40 placement.
Utah State is the only team in the state of Utah and in the Mountain West to be ranked in the top 50 Oracle/ITA poll.
As the No. 40-ranked team last week, the Aggies went on the road and defeated Mountain West rival UNLV, 4-3. Utah State picked up singles wins from senior Jack Swindells, sophomore Samuel Serrano, freshman Sergiu Bucur and sophomore Jonas Maier, who clinched the match after fighting off five match points. The win gave USU its sixth win in a row, a season-high winning streak.
Overall this season in dual matches, Utah State is led by Swindells and Serrano, both of whom have won 12 singles matches. Junior Jaime Barajas owns an 11-6 mark, while Maier rounds out USU’s double-digit winners with a 10-5 record. In doubles, Maier and Swindells are 10-6 as a tandem and currently on a four-match winning streak. Serrano and junior Kai Wehnelt are 9-7 as a duo.
The Aggies are back in action this week when they host four matches beginning with Saint Mary’s on Thursday, April 6, at 2 p.m.
