LOGAN, Utah — Utah State men’s tennis moved up to No. 40 in the latest Oracle/ITA poll released by the organization on Tuesday. The ranking is the highest in school history, topping the No. 42 ranking the Aggies held last week and the No. 49 ranking two weeks ago.
As the No. 42-ranked team last week, the Aggies topped Mountain West foe San Diego State, 4-1, picking up singles wins from junior Kai Wehnelt, senior Jack Swindells and sophomore Samuel Serrano. The Aggies also picked up the doubles point as the duo of Swindells and sophomore Jonas Maier won, while juniors Jaime Barajas and Andrew Nakajima clinched the doubles point. The win gave USU its fifth in a row, tying a season-high mark.
Overall this season in dual matches, Utah State is led by a trio of Aggies that have 11 wins as Barajas, Swindells and Serrano have all reached the mark. Maier is just behind with a 9-5 record. In doubles, USU’s tandem of Wehnelt and Serrano have a 9-6 record, matched equally by the duo of Maier and Swindells. Barajas and Nakajima are on a five-match winning streak as a team.
The Aggies are back in action this weekend when they travel to face conference rival UNLV on Sunday, April 2 at Noon.
