The race atop the Mountain West women’s volleyball standings remains tight as UNLV and Boise State hold down the top spot with matching 10-2 records. Colorado is close at 9-2, followed by Wyoming at 8-3. UNLV travels to the Front Range to face the Rams on Thursday, November 3 and the Cowgirls on Saturday, November 5. Boise State has just one match this week at Utah State on Thursday, November 3.

Two more seniors are on track to join the ranks of the Mountain West’s 1,000-career kills club this week. UNLV’s Bree Hammel has 987 career kills going into the week, while Wyoming’s Kayla Slofkiss had 979. The two players will face each other on Saturday, November 5 in Laramie.

The Mountain West continues to do well in the latest NCAA RPI report released on Monday, Oct. 31. The league has five teams ranked in the top-80. UNLV tops the rankings at No. 22, followed by Boise State (32), Colorado State (57), Wyoming (71) and San Diego State (80). The MW is one of seven leagues to have five or more teams in the RPI top-80, joining Big Ten (11), Pac-12 (9), SEC (6), Big 12 (6), American (5) and ACC (5).

The 2016 UNLV squad is just the sixth in program history to reach the 20-win season milestone. They join the 1984 (23), 1998 (23), 2006 (20), 2007 (24) and 2014 (26) teams.

Wyoming recorded its first win over Colorado State in the annual Border War since 1997 with a 3-1 victory on October 25. It stopped a 37-match losing streak to the Rams.

New Mexico’s Devanne Sours and Wyoming’s Madi Fields were named Mountain West Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week on Monday. Click HERE for more on this week’s honorees.
