COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – New Mexico senior Illia Maksymchuk has been selected as the Mountain West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week and fellow Rebel Marko Maksimovic is the MW Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Week for a second straight week and third time this season.

On the women’s side, San Diego State senior Jo-Yee Chan earned her second MW Women’s Tennis Player of the Week honor, while first-year Aztec Vessa Turley picked up her first MW Women’s Tennis Freshman of the Week award.

MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
ILLIA MAKSYMCHUK, UNLV
Senior, Kharkiv, Ukraine/Ivan Piddubnyi Olympic Professional

  • Went 3-0 on the weekend to help UNLV to a pair of victories, including a conference win against Grand Canyon and a win over Utah.
  • Won his No. 3 singles match in straight sets (6-0, 6-3) against the Lopes and teamed up with Marko Maksimovic to take down GCU’s No. 1 doubles duo, 6-0.
  • Added another No. 1 doubles win against the Utes’ top pair, 7-5, to help secure the doubles point and UNLV’s overall win.

MEN’S TENNIS FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
MARKO MAKSIMOVIC, UNLV
Belgrade, Serbia/E-Gimnazija

  • Went 3-1 across singles and doubles to help UNLV to wins over Grand Canyon and Utah.
  • Playing at the No. 2 spot, won his singles match against the Lopes in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.
  • Paired with MW Men’s Player of the Week Illia Maksymchuk to shut out Grand Canyon’s No. 1 doubles squad.
  • Wrapped up the weekend defeating Utah’s top doubles duo.

WOMEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JO-YEE CHAN, SAN DIEGO STATE
Senior, Sugar Hill, Georgia/Oregon

  • Went 2-0 at the No. 1 singles and doubles spot to lead the Aztecs to a win over No. 19 San Diego.
  • Beat the Toreros’ No. 1, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2.
  • Teamed up with MW Women’s Freshman of the Week Vessa Turley to beat San Diego’s top doubles pair to help clinch the doubles point in the win.
