COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – UNLV sophomore Ilia Snitari has been selected as the Mountain West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for the second time in the last three weeks, while fellow Rebel Marko Maksimovic is the MW Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Week.

On the women’s side, San Diego State senior Jo-Yee Chan earned MW Women’s Tennis Player of the Week honors and Utah State’s Terezia Mlkva was tabbed MW Women’s Tennis Freshman of the Week.

MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
ILIA SNITARI, UNLV
Sophomore, Kishinev, Moldova/Gloria Sports Theoretical Lyceum

  • Won his singles and doubles match in the No. 1 flight against No. 21 USC
  • Facing the Trojan’s top singles competitor Nathan Trouve, won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, to improve to 17-1 overall this year.
  • Helped secure the doubles point in the match, winning 7-5 with teammate Arda Karakas over USC’s No. 1 doubles pair.

MEN’S TENNIS FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
MARKO MAKSIMOVIC, UNLV
Belgrade, Serbia/ E-Gimnazija

  • Went a 2-0 against No. 21 USC, winning both his singles and doubles matches in the No. 2 spot.
  • His singles win was in straight sets over USC’s Jack McCarthy.
  • Teamed up with Illia Maksymchuk to win the tiebreaker and clinch the doubles point over the Trojans.

WOMEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JO-YEE CHAN, SAN DIEGO STATE
Senior, Sugar Hill, Georgia/Oregon

  • Dominated in the No. 1 singles and doubles flight to help San Diego State to a 4-0 shutout win over Long Beach State.
  • Her singles win came on straight sets (6-1, 6-1), which secured the first point of the match.
  • Playing with freshman Vessa Turley, took down LBSU’s top doubles pair 6-1 to clinch the point.

WOMEN’S TENNIS FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
TEREZIA MLKVA, UTAH STATE
Piestany, Slovakia/ Gymnazium Pierra de Coubertina

  • Went 3-1 combined across singles and doubles to help the Aggies to a pair of wins over Idaho State and Weber State.
  • Her two singles wins and doubles win all came at the No. 1 spot, providing the clinching point in both matches in the doubleheader.
  • Playing with teammate Natalie Paterova, secured the doubles point with a 6-4 win.
