LAS VEGAS – The Mountain West released its 2025-26 Preseason Men’s Basketball All-Conference team and preseason award winners Thursday morning in conjunction with the start of Old Trapper Mountain West Basketball Media Day.
As voted on by select media members, the preseason team is made up of one graduate student, four seniors, three juniors and two sophomores.
San Diego State junior Miles Byrd was selected as the Mountain West Preseason Player of the Year, while Grand Canyon graduate student Brian Moore Jr. was named the MW Preseason Newcomer of the Year. San Diego State rookie Elzie Harrington was voted the MW Preseason Freshman of the Year.
A 2024-25 All-Mountain West selection, Byrd enters his third season at San Diego State. Last season, he averaged 12.3 points and 4.4 rebounds as a starter in all 30 games. Byrd finished his sophomore campaign second in the MW in steals (2.1), eighth in blocked shots (1.1) and the fourth-best free-throw percentage (.832).
A Harlem, New York, native, Moore joins Grand Canyon for his final collegiate season after earning the Lou Hensen Award and leading Norfolk State to the postseason in 2024-25. He averaged 18.7 points, 3.4 boards and 3.3 assists per game, while shooting 54.5 percent from the floor.
Harrington, a product of Long Beach, California, enters his first season with San Diego State. The freshman averaged 16.3 points, 5.2 assists and 3.4 rebounds during his senior campaign at St. John Bosco High School. He was also a four-star prospect, who was ranked No. 73 in the ESPN 100.
Joining Byrd and Moore on the preseason All-MW team are Boise State’s Andrew Meadow, Grand Canyon’s Jaden Henley, Nevada’s Elijah Price, New Mexico’s Deyton Albury, San Diego State’s Magoon Gwath and Reese Dixon-Waters, UNLV’s Kimani Hamilton and Utah State’s Mason Falslev.
