RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – On the strength of three players inside the top five, Nevada leads the 2025 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Women’s Golf Championship by three strokes after Tuesday’s opening round. The tournament is being played on the par-72, 6,286-yard Dinah Shore Tournament Course at Mission Hills Country Club. San José State’s Lucia Lopez Ortega is the individual leader after 18 holes of play.

Nevada junior Anna Shultse was one of just four MW players to post a red score on Tuesday, shooting a 2-under-par 70 to sit tied for second after the opening round of play. Wolf Pack teammates senior Raesa Sheikh and sophomore Nikki Chindavong carded even-par 70s and are part of a seven-way tie for fifth, while sophomore Payton Lovisa logged a 2-over 74 and is tied for 14th. The Wolf Pack, which carded a collective even-par 288, is seeking its first MW tournament title and holds the first-round lead for the first time since joining the league in 2012-13.

Ortega’s opening-round 3-under 69 and teammate Moa Andersson’s 2-under 70 propelled defending champion San José State into second after day one with a 3-over 291. The 46th-ranked Spartans are seeking their third title in four years and sit one stroke ahead of No. 38 UNLV, which turned in a 4-over 292. The Rebels were led by Toa Yokoyama and Zi Yu Foong, who posted matching even-par 72s to enter play Wednesday tied for fifth.

Colorado State is fourth at 7-over 295, led by Kara Kaneshiro’s 1-under 71, which puts her alone in fourth place. New Mexico is fifth in the team standings at 10-over 298, with Chelsea Truong part of the tie for fifth at 72.

Fresno State is two shots back at 12-over 300, led by Vunnisa Vu’s even-par 72. Boise State is seventh (+13, 301), Wyoming is eighth (+14, 302) and San Diego State is ninth (+16, 304), with the Aztecs’ Ema Narita tied for fifth with an opening-round 72.

Day two tee times begin at 7 a.m. PT, with Boise State, Wyoming and San Diego State paired together. Colorado State, New Mexico and Fresno State begin teeing off at 7:45 a.m., followed by Nevada, San José State and UNLV beginning at 8:30. Live scoring is available at Scoreboard.clippd.com.
