COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – San José State senior Lucia Lopez Ortega has been named the Mountain West Women’s Golfer of the Week, while Wyoming’s Lucia Morelli is the MW Women’s Golf Freshman of the Week selection.

The MW honor is the eighth of Ortega’s career and the first for Morelli.

GOLFER OF THE WEEK
LUCIA LOPEZ ORTEGA, SAN JOSÉ STATE
Senior, Sa Coma, Mallorca, Spain/les Ortega y Gasset

  • Tied for sixth at the Chevron Silverado Showdown at the Silverado Resort in Napa, California.
  • Shot a 3-under-par 213, opening with an even-par 72 and closing with a 4-under 68 to tie for the low score over the final 18 holes.
  • Made six birdies and eight pars in her final round, helping her to her second top-10 finish of the season.
  • Made 14 birdies over 54 holes, tied for the second-most in the 88-player field, and played the par-5s at 5-under, tied for third in the field.
  • Helped the Spartans to a ninth-place team finish in the 16-team field, which included eight teams ranked in the top 50 nationally and four in the top 25.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
LUCIA MORELLI, WYOMING
Mercer Island, Washington/Mercer Island HS

  • Playing as an individual, finished fifth out of 60 golfers at the Bobcat Desert Classic at Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear, Arizona.
  • Tied the Wyoming program record with a 5-under-par 211, matching a mark that has stood since 2017.
  • Shot three rounds of par or better, opening with a 2-under 70 before adding an even-par 72 in the second round and a 3-under 69 in the final round.
  • Her final-round 69 was tied the third-lowest score in the round.
