COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Fresno State senior Cierra Jackson has been named the Mountain West Women’s Field Athlete of the Week, while Wyoming’s Taliah Morris earned MW Women’s Track & Field Freshman of the Week honors.
On the men’s side, Colorado State’s Travis Turner garnered the MW Men’s Track Athlete of the Week and MW Men’s Freshman of the Week awards. For the second consecutive week, Air Force junior Texas Tanner was named the MW Men’s Field Athlete of the Week.
There was no women’s track athlete of the week selection.
WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
CIERRA JACKSON, FRESNO STATE
Senior, Chandler, Arizona/Chandler HS
- Finished first in the discus and hammer throw at the West Coast Relays.
- Set a program record twice in the discus, breaking a 36-year old record by three-time U.S. Champion and Olympian Lacy Barnes with a distance of 63.66 meters on her second attempt and besting that on her third attempt with a mark of 64.42 meters.
- The discus mark ranks No. 12 in the NCAA all-time, No. 2 in the NCAA this season and No. 2 in Mountain West history.
- Won the hammer throw with a distance of 65.89 meters, which is No. 4 in Mountain West history and ranks No. 6 in the NCAA this year.
WOMEN’S FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
TALIAH MORRIS, WYOMING
Cheyenne, Wyoming/Cheyenne East High School
- In her collegiate outdoor debut, won the long jump at the Jack Christiansen Invitational.
- Recorded a mark of 6.24 meters, setting a new career-high by over a foot and ranking No. 5 in school outdoor history.
- Also ranks tied for No. 15 in the NCAA this season.
MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE & FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
TRAVIS TURNER, COLORADO STATE
Freshman, Valdosta, Georgia/Valdosta HS
- In his first collegiate outdoor race, won the 400-meter race at the Jack Christiansen Invite.
- His time of 46.76 is fifth-best time in school history, third-best among MW athletes this year and first among freshman in the MW.
MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
TEXAS TANNER, AIR FORCE
Junior, Sheridan, Wyoming/Sheridan HS
- Competed in the hammer throw, discus and shot put at the Texas Relays, finishing second, third and sixth in the events, respectively.
- Broke the Air Force program record in the discus with a throw of 59.59 meters, adding nearly a foot to the previous Air Force and Service Academy record Hayden Bullock set in 2023.
- Throw currently ranks No. 5 in the NCAA and leads the Mountain West.
- In the hammer throw, recorded a distance of 69.09 meters, ranking second-best in the conference to the MW-record (73.43 meters) he set last week.
- Made season debut in the shot put with his mark of 18.29 meters ranking No. 2 in the conference and No. 20 in the NCAA.
