COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – New Mexico senior Aram Noroozian has been named the Mountain West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, while Nevada’s Axel Huysmans has been tabbed the MW Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Week.
On the women’s side, San José State sophomore Cheuk Ying Shek earned the MW Women’s Tennis Player of the Week nod, while Nevada’s Petra Janigova was tabbed the MW Women’s Tennis Freshman of the Week.
MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
ARAM NOROOZIAN, NEW MEXICO
Senior, Vancouver, British Columbia/Pro Merita Academy
- Went undefeated on the week with a 4-0 record, competing at No. 1 singles and doubles.
- Helped lead UNM to the 2025 Jack Kennedy Classic title with wins over Wichita State (5-2) and No. 67 Santa Clara (6-1).
- Defeated No. 104 Alexander Watanabe Eriksson of Santa Clara (6-3, 6-2) in a key singles match, extending UNM’s lead to 3-1.
- Won both doubles matches 6-1, contributing to back-to-back doubles point sweeps.
MEN’S TENNIS FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
AXEL HUYSMANS, NEVADA
Mechelen, Belgium/Atlas College
- Posted a perfect 3-0 record in singles, winning all matches in straight sets.
- Went 4-2 overall on the weekend, playing as high as No. 2 doubles and No. 4 singles.
WOMEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
CHEUK YING SHEK, SAN JOSÉ STATE
Sophomore, Sai Kung, Hong Kong
- Ying Shek won at No. 1 doubles and singles to help the Spartans secure a 4-0 win over Boston College.
- The victory marked the Spartans’ first win over a current ACC member since defeating SMU in 2016.
- Ying Shek and doubles partner Carla Urchoeguia clinched a 7-6 (7-1) victory in doubles over Boston College.
WOMEN’S TENNIS FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
PETRA JANIGOVA, NEVADA
Dolný Kubín, Slovakia/Gymnázium Považská Bystrica
- Recorded a perfect 4-0 mark on the week, competing at No 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.
- Dominated in singles play, securing straight-sets victories over Santa Clara (6-1, 6-2) and Pacific (6-2, 6-1).
- Janigova and doubles partner Wiem Boubaker won five straight games on the week.
