COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Utah State’s Giselle Gonzalez was named the Mountain West Softball Player of the Week while, San Diego State’s Dee Dee Hernandez was selected as the MW Pitcher of the Week. Boise State’s Makenzie Butt collected the MW Freshman of the Week nod.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
GISELLE GONZALEZ, UTAH STATE
Senior, Infielder, San Diego, California/Mater Dei Catholic HS
- Led the Aggies to a 4-1 week at the Lyman Classic with wins over UC San Diego (10-2), Weber State (11-10), San Diego (13-10), at Utah Tech (21-15) and a loss to Idaho State (7-11).
- Recorded eight hits, six runs, 13 RBIs and five home runs with a batting average of .500, an on-base-percentage of .600 and a slugging percentage of 1.438 in 16 at-bats.
- The infielder logged 42 putouts and one assist defensively.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
DEE DEE HERNANDEZ, SAN DIEGO STATE
Senior, La Crescenta, California/Crescenta Valley HS
- Pitched in three of the Aztecs’ five games, logging wins over UC Santa Barbara (4-0) and Hawai’i (8-0) and a save against Saint Mary’s (6-5).
- In 13 innings in the circle, allowed only five hits, no runs and just one walk with three strikeouts to earn a 0.00 ERA.
- Threw two complete-game shutouts.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
MAKENZIE BUTT, BOISE STATE
First Base, Garden Grove, California/Fountain Valley HS
- Assisted the Blue and Orange to a 5-0 week at the Lyman Classic.
- Tallied 12 RBIs, eight runs, six hits, four home runs and six walks.
- Recorded a .400 batting average, a .571 on-base percentage and a 1.200 slugging percentage.
- Defensively, had 25 putouts and one assist.
