COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Utah State senior Sergi Micó Fenollar has been named the Mountain West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, while Air Force’s Matthew Staton has been tabbed the MW Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Week.
On the women’s side, UNLV senior Cindy Hu earned the MW Women’s Tennis Player of the Week nod, while New Mexico’s Maria Matsoukatidi was tabbed the MW Women’s Tennis Freshman of the Week.
MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
SERGI MICÓ FENOLLAR, UTAH STATE
Senior, Cocentaina, Spain/IES Tirant Lo Blanc
- Went undefeated over the weekend with a 4-0 record across No. 1 singles and No. 3 doubles.
- Won his singles match against Idaho State in straight sets (6-2, 6-1).
- Clinched a win over San Diego State with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 singles victory.
MEN’S TENNIS FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
MATTHEW STATON, AIR FORCE
Bristow, Virginia/Colgan Senior
- Went undefeated over the weekend with a 2-0 record at No. 5 singles.
- Won against Florida Gulf Coast (6-2, 6-2) and Navy (6-3, 6-4) in straight sets.
- Clinched Air Force’s second win over Navy in program history.
WOMEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
CINDY HU, UNLV
Senior, Guangzhou, China
- Went a perfect 6-0 over the weekend, competing at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles against Kansas City, Utah Tech and Idaho State.
- Hu did not lose a set-in single and surrendered just two games in three doubles matches, assisting UNLV to go 3-0 on the weekend and stay unbeaten on the season.
WOMEN’S TENNIS FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
MARIA MATSOUKATIDI, NEW MEXICO
Soloniki, Greece
- Recorded a perfect 3-0 mark on the week, competing at No. 3 doubles and No. 4 singles.
- Against UTEP, earned a 6-3 victory to claim the opening point in a doubles sweep.
- After picking up a 6-3 doubles win against New Mexico State, came from behind in singles (5-7, 6-4, 6-1), to break a 2-2 tie and pave the way for New Mexico’s victory.
