BOISE, Idaho – Boise State head coach Spencer Danielson was named the Grant Teaff Coach of the Year, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes announced at the American Football Coaches Association Convention. The award is presented annually to a Division I head coach who lives out his Christian faith and demonstrates a life of integrity and leadership.
In his first season as full-time head coach, Danielson guided the Broncos to a 12-2 record and a win in the Old Trapper Mountain West Championship. Boise State was the No. 3 seed in the College Football Playoff and played in the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl. Danielson was named AFCA Region 5 Coach of the Year and MW Coach of the Year while earning selection as a finalist for the Paul “Bear” Bryant Award and George Munger Award.
Running back Ashton Jeanty won the Maxwell Award and Doak Walker Award while finishing second in Heisman Trophy voting. The junior ran for 2,601 yards, the second-highest single-season total in FBS history. He became the first unanimous All-American in program history and was awarded the Bobby Bowden Trophy.
Joining Jeanty on multiple All-America teams was offensive tackle Kage Casey. The Boise State offense averaged 37.3 points per game, ranking sixth in the nation, and 466.0 total yards per game, eighth-most in the country.
Defensive end Ahmed Hassanein repeated as a first team All-MW selection and is one of three finalists for Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year. The senior captained a Bronco defense that totaled an FBS-high 55 sacks. Boise State averaged 7.9 tackles for loss per game, ranking fifth in the nation.
