LOGAN, Utah — Utah State men’s basketball made its season Top 25 debut this week, checking in at No. 25 in both the AP Top 25 and USA Today Coaches Poll.
Utah State is 14-1, including a 4-0 mark in Mountain West play, under first-year USU head coach Jerrod Calhoun. It is the third time in program history the Aggies have been ranked under a first-year head coach — the previous occasions were in 2018-19 under coach Craig Smith and in 2023-24 under coach Danny Sprinkle.
Overall, it is the 11th season in school history that Utah State has achieved a national ranking. Last year’s squad spent 11 weeks ranked in the AP Poll, debuting at No. 20 on Jan. 9, and spending all but one week the remainder of the season in the top 25, climbing as high as No. 17 and finishing the year No. 22. USU’s highest-ever ranking was in 1960 when it was No. 7 in the nation.
As an AP ranked squad, Utah State has a 77-25 (.755) all-time record.
The Aggies, who are coming off an 89-83 win over Fresno State last week, are tied for the second best record in the nation with a .933 winning percentage. The team is tied with St. Bonaventure, whose only loss this season was to Utah State, and behind only Tennessee, who is the lone unbeaten squad in the country.
Utah State ranks in the top 50 in the nation in several major statistical categories, including winning percentage (2nd – .933), assists (11th – 18.5), steals (16th – 10.1), fastbreak points (18th – 16.07), scoring margin (23rd – +16.5), turnovers forced (27th – 15.87), turnover margin (32nd – +3.8), scoring offense (35th – 83.3), field goal percentage (38th – .488), bench points (39th – 30.07), assist/turnover ratio (40th – 1.53) and free throws made (48th – 17.0).
