BOISE, Idaho – Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty is one of 16 semifinalists for the 88th Maxwell Award, the Maxwell Football Club announced. The award is presented annually to the collegiate football player of the year.

Jeanty leads the nation in various rushing categories, including yards (1,734), touchdowns (23), yards per game (192.7), yards after contact (1,260) and missed tackles forced (90). His yards after contact per game average (140.0) is higher than the total rushing yards per game average of any FBS player. The tailback also leads the FBS in all-purpose yards (1,827) and points (144).

The junior began his HEI2MAN campaign with a school-record 267 yards and six touchdowns at Georgia Southern, then followed that with a 192-yard, three-touchdown effort at No. 7/6 Oregon. Jeanty ran for 127 yards in one half against Portland State then gashed Washington State for 259 yards and four touchdowns.

The team captain ran for 186 yards and three touchdowns in one half against Utah State and bruised his way to 217 yards at Hawai’i. He carried the ball 33 times against UNLV, tallying 128 yards. He eclipsed 30 carries against San Diego State, toting the rock 31 times for 149 yards and two touchdowns. Against Nevada, he recorded a career-high 34 rushes, finishing the game with 208 yards and three touchdowns.

Jeanty has set the program records for career 200-yard all-purpose games (9), consecutive 100-yard rushing games (9), career 200-yard rushing games (6), single-season 200-yard rushing games (4). He earned midseason all-America honors from numerous national outlets, including unanimous selections from the Associated Press and CBS Sports. The Lone Star (Texas) HS product is a three-time Doak Walker National Running Back of the Week winner and has earned six Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week awards. 

No. 12 Boise State (8-1, 5-0 MW) will travel to San José State (6-3, 3-2 MW) for a MW contest on Nov. 16. The Broncos and Spartans will kick off at 5 p.m. MT with the game airing on CBS Sports Network.

Led by Spencer Danielson in his first full season, Boise State looks to become the first Mountain West program to win back-to-back championships since San Diego State did so in 2015-16. Achieving such a feat will put Boise State in the discussion for the new, expanded, 12-team College Football Playoff format beginning this fall. Last year, Danielson became the first coach in college football history to win a conference championship with an interim title.
