COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado State’s Malaya Jones has been tabbed as the Mountain West Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week. New Mexico’s Liepa Lavickyte was named the MW Defensive Player of the Week, while UNLV’s Basia Latos garnered the MW Freshman of the Week nod.

 

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

MALAYA JONES, COLORADO STATE

Senior, Opposite, Santa Ana, California/Santa Margarita HS

  • Led the Rams to a pair of four-set victories over Wyoming and Boise State, securing a berth to the Conference tournament.
  • Averaged 5.63 kills per set and posted a hitting percentage of .383 across the eight sets of action on the week.
  • At Wyoming, logged 14 kills and one service ace.
  • At Boise State, tallied 31 kills on a .509 hitting efficiency, two service aces and one assist.
  • Contributed double-doubles in both contests in kills and digs.

 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

LIEPA LAVICKYTE, NEW MEXICO

Sophomore, Middle Blocker, Sandnes, Norway/Oregon State

  • Guided the Lobos to a 2-0 week over Nevada (3-1) and Utah State (3-2).
  • Averaged 2.33 blocks per set on 21 total blocks.
  • Collected a career-high 12 block assists against the Wolf Pack.
  • Notched an additional nine block assists in the five-set battle against the Aggies.

 

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

BASIA LATOS, UNLV

Outside, Lazy, Poland/School of Sports Championships

  • Helped the Rebels to a pair of wins over San José State (3-1) and Fresno State (3-1).
  • Averaged 3.13 kills per set with a .309 hitting percentage and totaled seven block assists, eight digs and four assists.
  • Against the Spartans, logged 17 kills, four block assists, four digs and one assist.
  • Against the Bulldogs, tallied eight kills with a .353 hitting efficiency, four digs, a perfect reception mark, three block assists and three assists.
