FORT COLLINS – The Colorado State women’s golf team finished its fall season as champions, putting together strong first and third rounds to claim not only the team championship but senior Lacey Uchida taking home the individual championship for the Rams as well.
Colorado State won the team championship finishing -23 (841) while Uchida finished -12 (204) individually.
Round one set the precedence for the Rams, going -12 (276) with strong days from both Uchida and Kara Kaneshiro who ranked in sixth place after the first-round shooting -3. Both Uchida and Kaneshiro, who finished 4th overall shooting -6 (210), were playing in their home state of Hawaii.
With Uchida notching nine birdies on day one, she tied teammate Pemika Arphamongkol for the single round individual school record at -8 (64). The Rams finished the tournament leading in team birdies with 56.
Round two was an even round for the Rams, maintaining their first place ranking with both Kansas State and Grand Canyon inching back on the Rams’ lead. Arphamongkol continued her tournament at even, leading the Rams with four birdies in the round.
Colorado State sealed the championship on day three thanks to a strong start on the front nine. Coming into the day -12, the Rams totaled 13 birdies on the front nine from there scoring four in Uchida, Kaneshiro, Arphamongkol and Jacinda Lee.
With Uchida finishing first, she was followed close behind with Kaneshiro in fourth and Lee finishing eighth shooting -3 (213) and Arphamongkol shooting -2 (214).
The Rams will take the break within their season, returning to play in the spring at the Collegiate Invitational hosted by Virginia January 31-February 2nd.
