COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – San José State’s Brooke Slusser was tabbed as the Mountain West Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, while San Diego State’s Gianna Bender collected the MW Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week nods.

 

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

BROOKE SLUSSER, SAN JOSÉ STATE

Senior, Setter, Denton, Texas/Alabama

  • Led the Spartans to a 2-0 week in Conference action with wins over New Mexico, 3-1, and Air Force 3-1.
  • Averaged 8.25 assists per set and 1.75 kills per set.
  • At New Mexico, tallied 35 assists, nine kills and one service ace. Additionally recorded 14 digs for SJSU and notched her fourth double-double of the season.
  • At Air Force, logged 31 assists, five kills and a career-high seven service aces.

 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER/FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

GIANNA BENDER, SAN DIEGO STATE

Libero, Hudsonville, Michigan/Hudsonville HS

  • Led the Aztecs to a 2-0 week with wins over Conference leader, Colorado State, 3-2, and Wyoming 3-0.
  • Averaged 4.38 digs per set and 1.38 assists per set.
  • Against the Rams, registered 17 digs, a perfect reception percentage, seven assists, one kill and one service ace.
  • Against the Cowgirls, racked an additional 18 digs, four assists and one service ace in the three-set victory.
