COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – San Diego State has been selected as the preseason favorite to capture the 2024 Mountain West women’s soccer regular-season title as voted on by the league’s 12 head coaches.

The Aztecs garnered 117 points and eight first-place votes, earning the top spot in the preseason coaches poll. Last season, San Diego State earned its seventh Mountain West regular-season title and the No. 1 seed in the MW tournament.

The defending MW tournament champion, Utah State, was selected to finish the upcoming season in second place with 107 points and two first-place votes, while Colorado State was tied for third with 99 points and two first-place votes. Also receiving 99 points, Boise State was tied for third with the Rams.

New Mexico was selected to finish in fifth place with 76 points, while Nevada rounded out the top half of the predicted order of finish in sixth place with 56 points.

Fresno State and UNLV are next, tied for seventh with 55 points, Air Force is in ninth with 37 points, San José State is 10th with 34 points, Wyoming is 11th with 32 points and Colorado College is 12th with 25 points.

The Mountain West also announced the 2024 MW Women’s Soccer Watch List, as selected by the Conference’s head coaches. Among the 36 players to watch to watch in 2024, 12 were All-Mountain West selections last season, including the 2023 MW Offensive Player of the Year, Denise Castro from San Diego State.

The 2024 season kicks off on Thursday, Aug. 15.
