COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Mountain West Associate Commissioner Jaime Hixson has been named the MW Commissioner’s Award recipient for 2021-2022. The award is chosen by the MW Recognition Committee, made up of two athletic directors, two senior women administrators and two faculty athletic representatives.

The prestigious Commissioner’s Award is bestowed upon an individual who, through dedicated effort and service, has achieved a singularly distinguished accomplishment during the current academic year that has significantly enhanced the MW or a member institution. Hixson, nominated for leading the MW’s Health and Safety Committee through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, is just the fourth recipient of the Commissioner’s Award.

Over the past two seasons, Hixson helped guide Conference members through the most challenging chapter in college athletics history from a healthcare standpoint. His role with the MW Health and Safety Committee brought together medical professionals overseeing the health and wellness of student-athletes enrolled at MW institutions.

Hixson joined the Mountain West in the spring of 2005. He oversees the MW football operation, including scheduling, the MW Football Championship Game, television, game operations, instant replay, officiating and bowl games. Hixson also serves as the staff liaison to the MW Joint Council.

A native of Ivesdale, Illinois, Hixson earned his bachelor’s degree in liberal arts and sciences with a concentration in speech communications from the University of Illinois in 2002 and received his master’s degree in sports management from Illinois in 2004. Hixson now resides in Colorado Springs with his wife Chelsea and two children.
