Theresa Kurtz joined the Mountain West staff in July 2019 and was promoted into her role as Director of Strategic Communications in July 2023. In her role at the MW, she serves as the primary media contact for men’s basketball, women’s soccer, indoor/outdoor track and field, cross country and baseball, while assisting with the overall communications operation.
Kurtz came to the MW from the University of Kansas (2013-2019) where she spent six years as the primary communications contact for the Jayhawks’ women’s basketball, softball and rowing teams, while assisting with the football program in 2018.
Prior to her stop in Lawrence, Kansas, she spent just over five years at MW member Fresno State (2008-2013), working with the Bulldogs’ nationally-ranked baseball program, as well as football, softball, women’s basketball, volleyball and soccer.
Kurtz graduated with a bachelor’s degree in communications with a public relations emphasis from Washington State University (2008) before earning a master’s degree in kinesiology with a sports administration option from California State University, Fresno (2012).
