RENO, Nev. – Nevada’s Jayce Dobie was named the John Olerud Award Two-Way Player of the Week by the College Baseball Hall of Fame Tuesday.

The award is named for John Olerud, the former Washington State standout who starred at first base and as a pitcher in college before going on to a 17-year Major League career.

Over the Wolf Pack’s 3-1 week, which included a key Mountain West series victory at Olerud’s alma mater, Washington State, Dobie batted .313 with a home run, double, six RBIs and five runs scored at the plate. On the mound, he tossed 2.1 innings with two strikeouts in Nevada’s March 24 win over San Francisco.

In the 14-9 win over the Dons, Dobie also walked twice and drove in three runs at the plate.

The Santa Clara, California native had at least one hit in each of Nevada’s games at Washington State, highlighted by a 2-for-5 effort with a home run and a double in Saturday’s series-evening 5-4 win.

On the year, Dobie leads all eligible hitters for the Pack in batting (.371), hits (39), doubles (11), total bases (59), and on-base percentage (.442), and has hit three homers and driven in 24 runs. As the Pack’s primary midweek starter, Dobie is 1-1 over five appearances with 10 strikeouts over 13.0 innings pitched.

Nevada (16-10, 6-3 MW) wraps up this week’s action Thursday at 3:05 p.m. against Simpson University at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park. The Wolf Pack, currently second in the Mountain West standings, returns to conference play next weekend, April 10-12, hosting San José State.
