COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The 15 Mountain West student-athletes that competed at the 2026 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas, last week earned a total of seven First-Team and 11 Second-Team All-America honors across 17 events.
For the first time since 2017-2018, the Conference had a second straight national champion on the men’s side with New Mexico’s Habtom Samuel winning gold in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 13:36.58. The junior, who collected his third First-Team All-America honor in the event and his fifth indoor All-America honor overall, is the first men’s runner in Mountain West history to win a national title in the 5,000-meter.
In total, the Lobos had a league-high five student-athletes compete at the national meet. Sophomore Pamela Kosgei took third in the 5,000-meter race (15:07.76) and was the national runner-up in the 3,000-meter (8:43.86), earning her a pair of first-team nods. In the 3,000-meter, the Lobo women took the second and third-place spots with fellow sophomore Marion Jepngetich (8:44.00) finishing just behind Kosgei, also giving her first-team status. Sophomore Matthew Endrödy advanced to the men’s mile final and finished sixth overall (3:59.74) for the league’s highest finish in the event since 2018 and a First-Team All-America honor. The Lobos’ fifth competitor was junior Evans Kiplagat, who ran alongside Samuel in the 5,000 meter and finished 16th (14:06.33) for second-team honors.
After sweeping the events at the conference championships, Air Force’s Texas Tanner competed in both the weight throw and shot put at the national meet. The senior took fifth overall in the shot put after setting an Air Force record and becoming the first in program history to exceed 20 meters with a mark of 20.25 meters (66-5.25), garnering first team honors. He added a 14th-place finish in the weight throw (21.39m/70-2.50) to pick up second team honors as well.
Colorado State had multiple women’s throwers at the national meet for a third consecutive year. Kajsa Borrman, the 2026 Mountain West Champion in the weight throw and Makayla Long, the 2026 Mountain West Champion in the shot put, competed in their respective events as the national meet. Borrman finished in sixth place (22.47/73-8.75)), good for First Team All-America status, and Long finished ninth (17.40m/57-1.0) to earn second team honors.
UNLV’s Krishna Jayasankar Menon joined CSU’s Long in the shot put competition and recorded a mark of 16.54 meter (54-3.25), good for 13th overall and second team honors.
San Diego State junior Xiamara Young, who collected gold medals in the long jump and triple jump at the 2026 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Championships, took 11th in the triple jump (13.07m/ 42-10.75) and 12th in the long jump (6.06m/19-10.75) for a pair of second team nods.
Boise State saw two take the trip to Fayetteville with 2026 MW Heptathlon Champion Landon Helms and 2026 MW Women’s Mile Champion Kaiya Robertson competing over the weekend. Despite not participating in the final two events at the national meet, Helms finished 15th overall (4,179 points) to pick up Second Team All-America honors, while Robertson took 14th in the mile prelims (4:40.33) to also earn second team accolades.
Rounding out the Mountain West participants was Utah State trio Ayodele Ojo, Landon Bott and Logan Hammer. Ojo took 15th in the 60-meter prelims (6.71), Bott finished 16th in the 800-meter prelims (1:52.28) and Hammer tied for 14th in the pole vault (5.40m/17-8.5), each earning Second Team All-America honors.
