RENO, Nev. – The races for team titles at the 2026 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Championships tightened up Friday at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center.
The Colorado State men made their move, vaulting atop the leaderboard, while on the women’s side Nevada shot into second, within striking range of New Mexico.
In the men’s Weight Throw, the Rams took five of the eight scoring places, including spots two through four consisting of Kyle Bigley, Adam Hellbom, and Cameron Kalaf.
Air Force’s Texas Tanner took gold in the event with a top mark of 23.31 meters while teammate Arden Keefe took fifth. Air Force sits third on the top of the men’s leaderboard with 27 points, just two back of second-place New Mexico. Colorado State leads with 50 points.
Nevada capitalized on balanced performances in long jump and high jump to fire into second place on the women’s side. A silver-medal performance in Long Jump from Kaja Maltaric and a fourth-place finish from Alma Kathan in long jump, and fourth- and fifth-place finishes in high jump from Hazel Gaspaire and Stina Larsson boosted Nevada up to 38 points. New Mexico held its day one lead despite just two points Friday, sitting ahead at 49 points while Fresno State is in third at 35.
San Diego State’s Xiamara Young won gold in long jump to give the Aztecs their first title of the meet.
Kajsa Borrman led a Colorado State 1-2 finish, and three of the top four spots, in the women’s weight throw, topping the field with a mark of 22.16 meters.
Fresno State’s Elizabeth Tarczy won a jump-off against Air Force’s Morgan Glaser to take the High Jump after both competitors topped out at 1.84 meters. It’s Tarczy’s second straight Mountain West Indoor title in the high jump.
Boise State came away with two men’s titles Friday. Landon Helms capped his heptathlon title with a dominant finish in the 1,000 Meters, finishing with 5,694 points to out-distance silver medalist Mateo Munoz of Colorado State (5,628 points) and bronze medalist Javin Richards of Utah State (5,457). In long jump, Raekwon Weatherspoon topped the field with a career-best jump of 7.83 meters on his final attempt.
Preliminary heats for the mile, 60-meter hurdles, 400 meters, 60 meters, and 800 meters also took place on both the men’s and women’s sides Friday.
The final day of competition gets underway Saturday at 10:30 a.m. MT as 22 event titles will be up for grabs.
