COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. San José State junior guard Colby Garland has been named the Old Trapper Mountain West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, while New Mexico guard Jake Hall was tabbed the Old Trapper MW Freshman of the Week.

This is the first weekly honor of the season for Garland and fourth for Hall.

MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

COLBY GARLAND, SAN JOSÉ STATE

Junior, Guard, Magnolia, Arkansas/Longwood

  • Led SJSU to a 1-1 record on the week with a win over Nevada (87-71) and loss to Boise State (84-69).
  • Averaged 25.5 points, seven assists and 2.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 55.9 percent (19-for-34) from the field and 44.4 percent (4-of-9) from long range.
  • Against the Wolf Pack, nearly recorded a double-double with 29 points and nine assists. Also tallied three boards and three steals.
  • Registered 22 points, five assists, two rebounds and steal against the Broncos.

MEN’S BASKETBALL FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

JAKE HALL, NEW MEXICO

Guard, Carlsbad, California/Carlsbad HS

  • Helped New Mexico to a 2-0 record with wins over Air Force (98-61) and at Fresno State (80-78).
  • Averaged 18 points and 4.5 rebounds and two assists in two starts for the Lobos. Also connected on 65 percent (13-of-20) from the field.
  • Against the Bulldogs, recorded 20 points, four boards, an assist and a steal in UNM’s come-from-behind victory. Also shot 66.7 percent (8-for-12) from the floor.
  • In the win over the Falcons, registered 16 points, five rebounds and three assists.
