COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – New Mexico junior Gene Trujillo has been named the Mountain West Baseball Player of the Week, while San Diego State sophomore Carson Johnson has been selected the MW Baseball Pitcher of the Week. SDSU’s Max Farrell collected the MW Baseball Freshman of the Week honor.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

GENE TRUJILLO, NEW MEXICO

Junior, Infielder, Albuquerque, New Mexico/St. Pius X HS

  • Led New Mexico to a season-opening series sweep over Fordham, winning all four games.
  • Batted .563 in four starts with nine hits, 10 RBIs and five runs scored.
  • Posted a .632 on-base percentage and a .875 slugging percentage.
  • Registered multi-hit games in all four outings.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

CARSON JOHNSON, SAN DIEGO STATE

Sophomore, Chandler, Arizona/Arizona

  • Made first start in Scarlet and Black in San Diego State’s 6-5 win over LIU on Sunday.
  • Threw seven innings, allowing one earned run, two walks and two hits.
  • Struck out a career-high 11 batters in his 2026 debut.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

MAX FARRELL, SAN DIEGO STATE

Infielder, Carlsbad, California/San Marcos HS

  • Helped San Diego State to a 3-0 record over LIU to open the 2026 campaign.
  • Batted .455 in three starts with five hits, four RBIs and six runs scored.
  • Posted a .600 on-base percentage and an .818 slugging percentage.
