Colorado Springs, Colo. – Utah State junior Landon Bott has been named the Mountain West Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, while Air Force senior Texas Tanner was selected as the MW Men’s Field Athlete of the Week and fellow Falcon Zachary DeWalt earned MW Men’s Freshman of the Week honors.
Boise State senior Kaiya Robertson was tabbed the MW Women’s Track Athlete of the Week and UNLV senior Krishna Jayasankar picked up her second MW Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honor of the season. Utah State’s Karina Cooper was named the MW Women’s Freshman of the Week.
MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
LANDON BOTT, UTAH STATE
Junior, North Salt Lake, Utah/Woods Cross HS
- Won the 800-meter race at the Roman Ruiz Speed and Power Invitational in Logan, Utah, with a time of 1:47.79, breaking a program record set in 1977 by U.S. Olympian and three-time NCAA champion Mark Enyeart.
- The mark also broke the George Nelson Fieldhouse record for the event that had stood since 1994 and is the fourth-fastest time in Conference history.
- His altitude-adjusted time of 1:45.72 ranks fourth in the country.
MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
TEXAS TANNER, AIR FORCE
Senior, Sheridan, Wyoming/Sheridan HS
- Won the shot put at Kansas State’s DeLoss Dodds Invitational, breaking his own program record in the event with a mark of 19.83 meters (65-0.75).
- The mark set a facility record at Cliff Rovelto Indoor Track, is the top mark in the Mountain West this season and ranks No. 3 in the nation.
- Won the event by nearly two meters at the meet where half of the six-team field is nationally ranked.
- Added a third-place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 22.52 meters (73-6.75).
MEN’S FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
ZACHARY DEWALT, AIR FORCE
Corpus Christi, Texas/Flour Bluff HS/USAFA Prep School
- Collected top-10 finishes in the 200-meter (8th, 21.67) and 400-meter (4th, 48.74) dashes at the DeLoss Dodds Invitational.
- Was the top freshman finisher in both races in a meet that featured three nationally ranked programs.
WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
KAIYA ROBERTSON, BOISE STATE
Senior, Portland, Oregon/Franklin HS
- Posted a time of 4:28.93 in the mile at Mile City in Seattle, Washington, now the fastest time in the event in Boise State and Mountain West history.
- Finishing third in a field of 22 runners, her time ranks No. 8 in the NCAA this season.
- Added a first-place finish in the 800-meter at the UW Invitational with a time of 2:05.15, which is fourth-fastest in program history, the top mark in the Mountain West this season and ranked No. 31 in the country.
WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
KRISHNA JAYASANKAR, UNLV
Senior, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India/UTEP
- Won the shot put at the New Mexico Team Open in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with a career-best throw of 16.63 meters (54-6.75).
- The mark now ranks second all-time in UNLV history, is first in the Mountain West and is No. 19 in the NCAA this season.
WOMEN’S FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
KARINA COOPER, UTAH STATE
Camas, Washington/Camas HS
- Finished second in the pole vault at the Roman Ruiz Speed and Power Invitational in Logan, Utah.
- Her mark of 4.04 meters (13-3.0) ranks third all-time in Utah State history.
- It is the third-best mark in the conference this season, best among Mountain West freshman and No. 12 among all freshmen in the NCAA.
