Xiamara Young Wins Triple Jump at Day Two of the MLK Invitational

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — San Diego State Women’s Track & Field wrapped up the final day of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational on a high note thanks to strong showings from both Xiamara Young and one of the 4×400 relay teams. Overall, the Aztecs competed across six different events on the day, posting two top 10 program marks along with eight top 10 finishes.

The highlight of the day came in the jump pits with Xiamara Young continuing her outstanding start to the season. After taking second place in the long jump yesterday, the 2024 indoor all-American claimed the top spot on the podium thanks to a 13.18m triple jump performance. In just two days Young has posted the third best long jump mark in program history and the sixth best triple jump performance in program history as well.

Along with Young’s impressive start to the meet, San Diego State closed the day on a high note as well. Anna Mager, Shari Hurdman, Kelia Bentham and Lidia Major not only claimed a top five finish in the 4×400 relay but the quartet’s 3:40.04 final time now stands as the seventh fastest time in Aztec history. Most impressively, Hurdman and Bentham contributed to the impressive mark as freshmen debuting in their first ever college relay.

Freshman Taylor Anyansi made her college debut in the 60-meter dash with a 7.68 final time. Transfers Isabella Nilsen and Brinley Campbell also made their San Diego State debuts over the weekend as well.

Overall, the Aztec’s set four new program top 10 marks as well as five new individual personal bests in New Mexico. The team will be back in action this coming week as they prepare to compete at the UW Invitational in Seattle on January 30.
