Colorado Springs, Colo. – Utah State sophomore Ayodele Ojo has been named the Mountain West Men’s Track Athlete of the Week for the second time this season, while Colorado State sophomore Ndayiragije Shukurani was tabbed the MW Men’s Field Athlete of the Week and first-year Ram Taylor Waters earned MW Men’s Freshman of the Week honors.
Nevada senior Annalies Kalma picked up her second MW Women’s Track Athlete of the Week award of the season and UNLV senior Krishna Jayasankar was named the MW Women’s Field Athlete of the Week. Utah State’s Sally Roos was named the MW Women’s Freshman of the Week.
MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
AYODELE OJO, UTAH STATE
Sophomore, Waxahachie, Texas/Waxahachie HS
- Took first place in the 60-meter sprint at the Snake River Open with his time of 6.55 breaking a 12-year-old school record (6.61) and an 11-year-old Mountain West record (6.60).
- The 6.55 currently ranks fourth in the nation.
- His prelim time of 6.62 ranked second in school history and third in Conference history before his record-breaking final race.
MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
NDAYIRAGIJE SHUKURANI, COLORADO STATE
Sophomore, Everett, Washington/Everett HS
- In his season debut in the high jump, won the event at Colorado’s Potts Invitational and broke the program record with a mark of 2.18 meters (7-1.75)
- The mark is best in the Mountain West this year and tied for seventh in the NCAA, while it is tied for the third-best mark all-time in Conference history.
MEN’S FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
TAYLOR WATERS, COLORADO STATE
Aurora, Colorado/Cherokee Trail HS
- Won the pole vault at Colorado’s Potts Invitational with a mark of 5.25 meters (17-2.75).
- The mark is tied for 29th in the nation, is second-best in the Mountain West and tied for third-best by a freshman in the NCAA.
WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
ANNALIES KALMA, NEVADA
Senior, Hamilton, New Zealand/St. Peters School Cambridge
- Won the 200-meter and helped the 4×400 meter relay team finish second at the Nevada Invitational.
- Her 200-meter altitude adjusted time of 23.86 ranks 23rd in the nation and is No. 2 in school history.
- The 4×400 relay time of 3:42.60 ranks 5th all-time in program history.
WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
KRISHNA JAYASANKAR, UNLV
Senior, Chennai, India/UTEP
- Took first in the shot put at the Nevada Invitational.
- Her winning throw of 15.99 meters (52-5.5) beat the second-place finisher by over .80 meters.
- Mark is second-best in the Mountain West this year and is tied for 21st overall in the country.
