COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – UNLV junior guard Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn has been named the Old Trapper Mountain West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Fresno State forward DeShawn Gory was tabbed the Old Trapper MW Freshman of the Week.
This is the first weekly honor of the season for both Gibbs-Lawhorn and Gory.
MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
DRA GIBBS-LAWHORN, UNLV
Junior, Guard, Lafayette, Indiana/Illinois
- Guided UNLV to victories over Boise State (89-85 OT) and San José State (76-62).
- Averaged 21.5 points, five assists and 4.5 rebounds per game, while connecting on 50 percent of attempts from the floor.
- Recorded a career-high 33 points and six assists in the overtime thriller against the Broncos.
- Registered 10 points, four assists and four boards against the Spartans.
MEN’S BASKETBALL FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
DESHAWN GORY, FRESNO STATE
Forward, Victorville, California/PHH Prep
- Helped Fresno State to a 2-0 week with wins over Colorado State (79-69) and Wyoming (63-60).
- Averaged 13.5 points, eight rebounds and three assists per game, while shooting a team-best 48.1 percent from the field.
- Against the Rams, posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards. Also dished out four assists.
- Against the Cowboys, recorded 13 points, six rebounds and two assists. Also tallied a blocked shot and a steal.
