COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Five Mountain West schools are among the top 100 nationally in the fall update of the 2025-26 Learfield Directors’ Cup standings, while the league’s average rank is eighth overall among the 31 NCAA Division I conferences and the fifth-best in the FBS.
New Mexico currently ranks 20th nationally with 170 points on the strength of an NCAA runner-up finish by its men’s cross country team and a fourth-place finish by its women’s cross country team. Boise State follows in 64th place with 79 points and Utah State is close behind in 66th with 75 points. Grand Canyon is 87th with 64 points and Air Force is 96th with 54 points.
The Conference’s five top-100 schools are the sixth-most in all of Division I and fifth-most in the FBS.
With San José State sitting at No. 131 with 25 points, the Mountain West’s six scoring schools have combined for an average rank of 77.3 to trail only the Big Ten, ACC, Big 12 and SEC, in that order, among FBS leagues.
