The Broncos (6-3) were led in scoring by Dylan Andrews, who notched a game-high 20 points. He grabbed six rebounds and had three assists in the game.
Drew Fielder totaled 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting in 19 minutes of game action. Andrew Meadow and Javan Buchanan, in his return to Indiana, each scored 10 points.
Butler (7-2) were led by Michael Ajayi, who poured in a team-high 16 points to go along with eight rebounds and two assists. Drayton Jones added 12 points for the Bulldogs, while Finley Bizjack pitched in with 10.
At the outset of Saturday’s game, Butler and Boise State combined to make five of their first 15 shot attempts. The two squads totaled just 13 points in the opening four-plus minutes, with the Bulldogs clinging to an early three-point lead.
Down four in the early stages of the contest, the Broncos rattled off three long balls by three different players in a two-minute span. Pearson Carmichael, Meadow and Andrews poured in a trio of threes, propelling Boise State to a 17-12 advantage at the under-12 media timeout.
The Broncos forged ahead by seven in the opening half and never relinquished the lead in the period. The team led for over 11 minutes and limited Butler to 31 points in the frame.
Five Broncos scored in the half, with all five posting at least five points. Fielder led all players with 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting.
In the session, Boise State shot just 38 percent from the floor and 40 percent from the free throw line while making only 12 field goals. However, the Broncos led by two at the intermission after grabbing eight offensive rebounds and totaling 22 points off second chance opportunities and points in the paint.
To start the second half, Butler rattled off eight quick points in 90 seconds. The Bulldogs used two old-fashioned three-point plays and a transition dunk to recapture the lead.
Weathering the Butler run, Boise State scored 11 of the next 13 points. In the initial eight minutes of the second half, the Broncos shot 8-for-12 and scored 21 points.
From that point forward, Boise State never trailed again. Down the stretch in a tightly-contested game, the Broncos iced the game at the free throw line.
In total, the Broncos led for over 25 minutes in the game. Boise State scored 42 second-half points en route to nine-point victory.
