The remainder of the teams and individuals are chosen on an at-large basis. The NCAA Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships will take place on Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia, Missouri.
New Mexico junior Habtom Samuel etched his name into Mountain West record books as he became the first cross country student-athlete, male or female, to win three consecutive MW individual titles. He also set the Conference record at the meet with an 8k time 22:32.0, breaking the championship record he had set as a freshman in 2023.
The Lobo men extended their MW Championship win streak to three after taking three of the top five spots in Fresno, marking their ninth title overall.
Boise State’s Meshack Kuyo and Wyoming’s Jacob White captured the other two top-five spots at the Conference meet with Kuyo taking third and White finishing in fifth.
New Mexico headlines three Mountain West men’s teams that are nationally ranked ahead of regionals with the Lobos sitting at No. 3, a spot inside the top five where they have spent the entire 2025 season. Air Force, who took third in Fresno, checked in at No. 28, while conference runner-up Boise State is at No. 29.
On the women’s side, New Mexico sophomore standout Pamela Kosgei won her second straight Mountain West individual title in Fresno on Oct. 31, becoming just the fourth woman in league history to win gold in back-to-back years at the Conference meet. The New Mexico women captured the MW Championship for a second consecutive year and for the 17th time overall after placing four runners in the top 5.
Boise State took second at the MW Championship as the Broncos were led by senior Kaiya Robertson, who finished runner-up to Kosgei at the Championship event and was a two-time MW Women’s Athlete of the Week this season.
Heading into the NCAA Regionals, the New Mexico women are nationally ranked with the Lobos sitting at No. 8 in the country. The Broncos received a vote in the latest poll as well.
