2025 Mountain West Cross Country Championship Central | Results
FRESNO, Calif. – It was a perfect fall morning for the Credit Union 1 Mountain West Cross Country Championships at Woodward Park in Fresno, California. The 2025 running of the Conference meet concluded with a familiar ending as the New Mexico men and women swept the Mountain West titles for a second consecutive year, while Lobo junior Habtom Samuel won his third straight individual title and sophomore Pamela Kosgei captured her second straight
On the men’s side, New Mexico had three of the top five finishers, helping the Lobos take home the team title for a third straight year and for the ninth time overall. Samuel made history, becoming the first Mountain West Cross Country athlete, male or female, to win three consecutive individual titles. The junior also broke his own meet record he set as a freshman in 2023, clocking a time of 22:32.0, to beat second-place finisher Vincent Chirchir (22:56.2) by over 24 seconds.
Boise State’s Meshack Kuyo (22:57.7) took third, followed by New Mexico’s Evans Kiplagat (22:58.7) in fourth and Wyoming’s Jacob White (22:59.4) rounding out the top five.
Lobo first-year runner Mathew Kosgei was the top freshman finisher of the race, coming in eighth (23.07.1).
The New Mexico women cruised to a second consecutive title and their 17th in the last 18 years after seeing four Lobos finish in the top five, led by the phenom Kosgei. The sophomore, who recorded a winning time of 19:20.8, became just the fourth Mountain West women’s cross country athlete to win the individual championship in back-to-back years.
Boise State senior Kaiya Robertson crossed the finish line in second with a time of 19:42.3, followed by New Mexico’s Judy Rono (19.49.7) in third, Jasmine Wood (19.56.1) and Marion Jepngetich (20:02.3) in fifth. Jepngetich was the field’s top women’s freshman finisher.
