2025 Mountain West Cross Country Championship Central

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – With the 2025 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Cross Country Championships taking place later this week, the New Mexico men’s and women’s teams were selected as the Conference favorites heading into the postseason, as voted by the league’s head coaches. The squads are looking to sweep both titles in consecutive years for the first time since 2014.

After collecting nine of 10 first-place votes and 81 points, the Lobos enter Friday’s MW Men’s Cross Country Championship as the favorite to repeat as champions and are currently ranked No. 3 in the nation. Boise State collected 69 points to place second, edging out third-place Air Force, who received 64 points and the other first-place vote.

Following the Falcons in the men’s poll are Wyoming in fourth (53 points), Utah State in fifth (51 points), Colorado State in sixth (41 points), Grand Canyon in seventh (38 points), Nevada in eighth (26 points), Fresno State in ninth (18 points) and San José State in 10th (9 points).

Leading up to the MW women’s championship, the Lobos earned 10 of 12 first-place votes and tallied 120 points. The New Mexico women have spent the entire 2025 season in the top-10 in the country, currently ranking No. 9 heading into the postseason.

Boise State received the other two first-place votes and took second with 110 points, followed by Colorado State in third with 97 points, Air Force in fourth with 90 points and Utah State in fifth with 85 points.

Rounding out the MW women’s pre-championship poll is Wyoming in sixth (73 points), Nevada in seventh (51 points), Grand Canyon in eighth (49 points), San Diego State in ninth (46 points), Fresno State in 10th (37 points), UNLV in 11th (20 points) and San José State in 12th (14 points).

The 2025 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Cross Country Championships will be hosted by Fresno State at Woodward Park in Fresno, California, on Friday, Oct. 31. The men’s 8k race will start at 9 a.m. PT, while the women’s 6k race begins at 9:45 a.m. PT. Both championship races will be broadcast live on the Mountain West Network.
