COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Mountain West announced on Tuesday athletes of the week for women’s swimming & diving. San José State’s Ela Freiman was named the MW Swimmer of the Week, Air Force’s Lulu Semakula earned MW Diver of the Week honors and San José State’s Genevieve George was tabbed as the MW Freshman of the Week.
MOUNTAIN WEST SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
ELA FREIMAN, SAN JOSÉ STATE
Senior, San Jose, California/Santa Teresa HS
• Won two individual races (200-yard butterfly and 200-yard individual medley) and one relay (200-yard medley relay).
• Contributed 33 points towards San José State’s 151-142 win over UC Davis on Saturday.
• Won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:01.90, which is the third-fastest time in the Mountain West this season.
• Her 200-yard butterfly time is also the ninth-fastest in San José State history.
• Won the 200-yard individual medley by over 2 seconds with a time of 2:03.29, which is the fifth-fastest time in the MW this year.
• Started the meet swimming the second leg of the winning 200-yard medley relay team.
• Finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:21.50.
MOUNTAIN WEST DIVER OF THE WEEK
LULU SEMAKULA, AIR FORCE
Freshman, Lino Lakes, Minnesota/Irondale HS
• Helped lead the Falcons to a pair of dual wins over Denver (233.50-138.50) and Mountain West opponent Wyoming (235.50-136.50).
• Picked up her first collegiate win with a score of 262.30 on the 1-meter springboard.
• Tied to score the most points for the Falcons (12).
• Becomes third freshman from Air Force to ever earn MW Diver of the Week honors.
MOUNTAIN WEST FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
GENEVIEVE GEORGE, SAN JOSÉ STATE
Swimmer, Phoenix, Arizona/Xavier College Prep
• Won one individual race (200-yard backstroke) and a relay race (200-yard medley relay) and finished second in another (200-yard individual medley) to contribute 26 points towards San José State’s 151-142 win over UC Davis on Saturday.
• Won the 200-yard backstroke at 2:02.54, which is the sixth-fastest time in the Mountain West this year.
• Finished second in the 200-yard individual medley at 2:05.58, which is the 10th-best time in the MW this year.
• Was fourth in the 200-yard butterfly at 2:03.25, which is the fifth-fastest time in the MW this year.
• Started the meet by swimming the first leg of the winning 200-yard medley relay team at 1:44.35.
