COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Utah State’s Shelby Jensen has been named the Mountain West Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week and Grand Canyon’s Michael Archie was selected as the MW Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week. Fellow Lopes Archie Budding and June Zimmerman Chavez were tabbed the MW Men’s and Women’s Freshmen of the Week, respectively.
WOMEN’S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
SHELBY JENSEN, UTAH STATE
Junior, Saratoga Springs, Utah/Westlake HS
- Finished second among collegiate runners and third overall in the 5k at the Beehive Invitational.
- The third-place individual finish and 5k time of 17:52.20 were both career-bests.
- Helped the Aggies to a third-place finish overall.
WOMEN’S FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
JUNE ZIMMERMAN, GRAND CANYON
Orem, Utah/Mountain View HS
- Placed 11th overall in the 5k among a field of 148 runners at the Biola Invitational with a time of 18:33.7.
- Second-best freshman finisher.
- Helped the Grand Canyon women finish fourth as a team at the event.
MEN’S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
MICHAEL ARCHIE, GRAND CANYON
Sophomore, Humble, Texas/Atascocita HS
- Won the 8k at the Biola Invitational with a time of 24:11.10, breaking the course record at Craig Regional Park in Fullerton, California.
- Led Grand Canyon to a first-place team finish at the event.
MEN’S FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
ARCHIE BUDDING, GRAND CANYON
Ilkley, Yorkshire
- Finished sixth overall and was the second-highest freshman finisher among a field of 165 at the Biola Invitational.
- Posted a time of 24.26.3 in the 8k.
- Helped the Lopes take first as a team at the event.
