COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Mountain West announced today the hire of Tammy Newman as associate commissioner, governance and compliance.

She will officially join the MW staff on Sept. 15.

A principal at TLN Consulting in Las Vegas since January 2025, Newman brings extensive experience in conference governance and compliance to the Mountain West.

Newman spent over 30 years at the Pac-12 Conference, serving as associate commissioner for governance from 2013 to 2024 after an eight-year run as an assistant commissioner for governance and legislation that began in 2005.

In her latter role at the Pac-12, Newman led governance, legislative and strategic initiatives for the conference, ensuring adherence to NCAA and league standards. She directed revisions to the conference constitution, bylaws and policies and managed NCAA membership requirement activities. Newman also developed and enhanced digital governance platforms, improving data security, access and reporting capabilities.

As an assistant commissioner, she managed the integration of NCAA and conference legislation, ensuring timely updates and member education. Newman also developed standardized processes for rule violation reporting and compliance management, led the planning and execution of high-profile championship events, and launched initiatives such as the Pac-12 Diversity Leadership Program to foster inclusive leadership across member institutions.

Newman also previously served as a governance and enforcement coordinator at what was then the Pac-10 Conference, as well as executive assistant to the commissioner.

“I am thrilled to serve the Mountain West and its members as we embrace ongoing growth and transformation,” Newman said. “This opportunity in helping to drive future victories on and off the field is inspiring, and I’m eager to advance governance and compliance for our student-athletes and membership. I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to collaborate and lead toward the gold standard of membership services.”

In her latest role at TLN Consulting, Newman provides operational support for clients, by managing workflows, coordinating stakeholder engagement and ensuring compliance with organizational standards.

Newman earned a degree in business management from Saint Mary’s College of California.
