COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Mountain West announced today the hire of Chelsey Burk as senior associate commissioner, governance and compliance. Burk will also serve as the MW’s senior woman administrator.
Burk comes to the Mountain West after spending the last two years at the University of Delaware, where she served as the deputy director of athletics, chief operating officer and senior woman administrator.
A member of the Athletics Director Executive Leadership Team, Burk developed, monitored and analyzed the Blue Hens’ operating, scholarship and capital/facilities projects budgets. She led department strategy, collaboration, planning, assessment and execution in multiple areas of responsibility during her tenure, including the strategic planning and financial evaluation of Delaware’s transition to the FBS and Conference USA.
“I am honored to join the Mountain West Conference.” Burk said. “The opportunity to be a part of a league that prioritized both competitive success and holistic student-athlete development is one I am truly grateful for. I look forward to working with Commissioner Gloria Nevarez, the conference staff, and our member institutions to build on the Mountain West’s momentum and continue to advance the league’s strategic priorities.”
Prior to her stint at Delaware, Burk spent a year at the Atlantic 10 Conference as an assistant commissioner and chief financial officer. There, she monitored and analyzed the department’s budget and advised the commissioner and senior members on financial matters. Burk oversaw all third-party contracts for the league and served as the conference’s information technology administrator.
Burk was the deputy director of athletics at the College of William & Mary from 2015-22. A member of the Director of Athletics Senior Leadership Team, she was responsible for the department’s operating budget, was a key contributor to the department’s strategic planning initiative and collaborated on the Tribe’s athletics brand and logo refresh. That marked her second stint at William & Mary, where she began her career as an athletics business manager from 2008-10.
Burk spent a year at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Business as a Department of Accounting program coordinator and was an athletics business manager at California University of Pennsylvania from 2010-14.
A former women’s golfer at the University of Kansas, Burk graduated with a degree in communications studies. The Washington, Pennsylvania, native later earned a master’s degree in sports management from California University of Pennsylvania and was the recipient of a Michael Duda Award for Athletic Achievement from California (Pa.) in April of this year. She was inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, Washington & Green Chapter, in 2022.
Burk will officially join the MW staff on Sept. 29.
